A Fairly Inane Update

Yesteryday was snowball, which was pretty much fun, if a long day. "Super Heroes" was the theme, and I led the awesome Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle group, with Amanda's help. Fun fun fun. (Have you ever noticed how strange of a word "fun" is? It doesn't really seem to fit its meaning... like, if I spoke a different language and saw the letters "f-u-n" together, I wouldn't immediately assume it meant something amusing or diverting.... er, maybe I'm just a weirdo.)

Anyway... I was surprising exhausted this morning even after 12 solid hours of sleep, but I guess that's what 18 hours at the school will do to you. So now I'm sitting in my kitchen listening to Dr. Horrible's Sing Along Blog soundtrack (that I finally decided to buy from iTunes), trying to wake up fully enough to write an AP essay for english and hammer out my math homework. Eh, well, I'll do the english homework at least; we'll have to see if I'm in the mood to bother doing math today.

To keep with this blog's purpose, here's the artwork of the day. I finally tracked down this picture; it was a freshman year art project that Ms. G was wowed by:

I think it's ok, if a little bit strange composition wise. The subject matter wasn't exactly my choice ("Here Jackie, why don't you draw this puppet, he always turns out well... Oh!  And throw the pineapple in!  I bought it for my AP students, and none of them seem interested in drawing it...")  I put the poor puppet in prison because I needed something in the background, and it kept with the alliteration (puppet, pineapple, pencil, prison... yeah...)

Thanks to Spongebob, pineapples will always be orange to me, even if my eyes tell me otherwise.

And the colors are much nicer on paper.  Honest.

And that's all for today!

Narcissism

While breaking from Pride and Prejudice, I decided I was in the mood to draw something (shocker).  Here's the result: a self-portrait.  Whether or not it looks like me is entirely debatable.

I'm not vain at all, honest.

Thats all for now.  Best be back to reading about prideful rich men and prejudiced, head-strong ladies!

I wish I were in Dixie...

Well another boring and tiring week is almost over with.  My creativity time has been encroached upon by a lot of reading to do for history and english--but I got a brand-spanking-new set of 120 prisma pencils to play with, so I made time.

Anyway, Here's a colored pencil I did on request, of a pretty southern plantation. I'm particularly fond of the bricks, for some reason. (As always with colored pencil, the coloring is a bit off from scanning it in, but oh well.)

More on Day 1

Well, while I'm in the groove, I guess I'll upload a few more pictures haha.

Both of these are rather recent pencil shadings...

Yes, this one is Twilight.  Shoot me.

And this one I based off of a photograph (photo credit here). I thought it was a pretty dynamic photo; there's a lot going on that I couldn't capture in my drawing, but I'm pleased with it nonetheless.

And that's all for today, folks!

Getting Started

While procrastinating today, I decided to make a blog.  Mostly since I was bored with anything else that I could be doing.  That is usually how my days end up playing out.

But since I'm not one to a) keep a journal, or b) post my life story/private thoughts on the internet, I decided my blog would need a purpose.  Which brought me to my next order of busines: finding a purpose.  Harder than you might think.  I finally decided it could be a good outlet for creativity, so I could get all those ideas/sketches/drawings that are wallowing in my notebooks and sketchbooks out into the open.  It does get sort of depressing creating stuff that no one ever sees, after all.

So here goes.  Now to figure out how this works...

Ah hah.  There we go.

So this is one of the earliest non-manga pictures that I drew that I was actually happy with.  I think this was right after 8th grade.  In any case, it's of the awesome Captain Jack Sparrow.

And you can click on it to see a larger version...  I'll have to see if there's an easier way to do that, without having to upload the images to the internet... But that's a task for another day.

I guess I'll be tinkering around here for a while. Should provide a few hours of entertainment at least haha.
