The Lusty Month of May

I felt the need to break my trend of 3 posts per month.  So May is going to get 4 posts. Also, I want to get some of the drawings I have laying around put up, so that they won't get shuffled to the bottom of the pile when I make some new stuff this summer (and there'll be a lot of that, I need to start on my projects for AP Art next year!)
So here are two drawings I did for art homework assignments this year.  My teacher lost the first homework assignment of the year, which was my favorite, so I can't put
that up until she finds it (I'm not getting my hopes up).  And, the 4th assignment of the year isn't worth being seen by anyone.  So you get the middle two!

The first one was our second assginment, to draw a box of cereal, a can of soup, and a bowl of said cereal.  I was eating goldfish while drawing, and don't give a damn that goldfish aren't "cereal." (Look at the goldfish on the table.  He's frowning because he missed the puddle of tomato soup.  Poor little goldfish.)

And then the bottom one was our 3rd assignment, to draw a purse and a cup of coffee.  I added an extra cup of coffee.  You can't have too much coffee.

Now I'm going to continue reviewing for finals, to ensure I do well.  I wouldn't want people to laugh at me if I fail after I bragged about how easy they're going to be.

School's Out for Summer

So, I'm done with school! Well, I still have three finals next week--English, Religion, and Math--but English is my favorite class, Religion is mind-numbingly easy, and I can get a 61% on my math final and still get an A. So I'm not too bothered. I don't even have to go in to school the last day and a half of finals.

In other related news, I finally got all my projects back from my art teacher. Two weeks ago, I committed Grand-Theft Pottery (she wasn't going to let me take home the Raku Pot that I had sculpted during first quarter). In short, I got a friend or two to distract her while I snuck in, snatched the pottery from the display shelf, and high-tailed it out of there. She never did notice it was gone, which made life simpler, but was, in a way, quite disappointing.

Today was much less hard-core, since I was allowed to take my projects home. I'll be posting some photos of the better ones. I can't fit any of them into my scanner, which makes life harder. And one, my pastel drawing of my saxophone, is hanging framed on my wall (a result of my mom's pride, not my own ego), so that photo will be low quality if I ever do put it up here.

But here is one I can fit! This was my final exam for the class. We had to draw a basket. Oh, ever so challenging.  I got an A+

Easiest final I've ever taken.  I wish all classes would let you draw something for a grade.

Flowers, Hamlet, and Captain Kirk

I'm going to shake things up, and put the picture at the beginning of the post:

There.  Nice change of pace.

It's done in watercolor.  Watercolors are the best thing to use when you're procratinating on studying for history: they're just messy enough to be satisfying, but not so messy that you ruin your notebook.  Unless you spill the water.  Which I didn't... this time.

Anyway, I had a fairly eventfull weekend. Friday was that AP US History test (which I dominated, I think, despite watercolor breaks. We'll find out for sure in July.) Then I baby-sat for a while; we played Zombie Tag (which involves more running than I think zombies normally do), and they made me feel very bad about my flexibility. All I know is if I had tried to twist myself up like a pretzel like them, they'd have been taking me to the hospital.

Then on Saturday I made a fool out of myself in a friend's history project movie. I played the part of Cuba AND Spain. It was entertaining to film, at least. We also rented Hamlet, filmed a dramatic reading of "To be or not to be" in blockbuster, and ended up killing about 8 hours at her house.  Fun stuff.

Sunday we went to mass, then took mom out dinner and to see Star Trek (it was her idea. But she's not a trekie. I promise.) I went in knowing nothing about Star Trek, other than that Spock has pointy ears and Captain Kirk is a badass, but it was a surprisingly good movie; I actually thoroughly enjoyed it.

That's pretty much all that's been going on. I have my AP English test this week, but I'm not particularly worried about that one. My hard subject is over. And now we're watching historical movies in history, so I'm pretty much stress free in the school work department. Nice change.

Well, until next time!

Spring is here, a-suh-puh-ring is here...

Its finally starting to look (and feel!) like spring outside.  In fact, today I walked into school without even a sweater!  All the trees have blossoms and the birds who nest outside my window have started their daily morning chirping.  After all, in the words of Tom Lehrer, all the world seems in tune on a spring afternoon while we're poisoning pigeons in the park--

Eh, maybe that's not an appropriate song reference at the moment.

Anyway.  The school year is winding down.  I've been studying my United States history, with a couple of songs to help:

The Presidents <--What better way to learn the MOST important facts about every president?  And in order too!

Washington  <--Er, a little less tasteful, but no less historically accurate!

So that's how the studying has been going.

In other news, I finished yet another piece of art.  This one is for my favorite art aficionado.

Spring in the south.  There aren't many things nicer than that.
